FHEAL JAZZ NIGHT
Friday 28th July we enjoyed a wonderful night of song, food and camaraderie at the BrisWest Community hall! We enjoyed it very much, and appreciate the organisational efforts of Jan Gillies, (organiser extraordinaire, and fine crooner too!) and Trish Ferrier, both of whom made “Fheal’n Groovy” a night to remember! The raffles were lovely, and a big thanks to those who gave them, as well as to the sponsors on the night.
We tasted delicious foods, sang and danced and relaxed to a variety of singing and instrumental music, heard Anisa Nandoula’s stirring poem, and deeply felt Getano Bann’s original compositions.MC Anna Heriot was wonderful. Sound was provided and managed by Dave Parnell, with excellent catering coordination by Maggie Shambrook. Performers included a jazz trio with Daniel Hirsch on drums; Shane Calderbank on keyboard; and Zac Sakrewski double bass. We were thrilled by jazz vocals fromSarah Collyer and Jan Gillies; and loved hearing the originals and Latin songs of Sue Monk’s group Jumping Fences; as well as enjoying the fun of a capella choir students of Kedron SHS [courtesy Dan Hirsch] .Thanks to friends who attended, and all those many good-hearted souls who contributed to making the night a success.
The funds raised will go directly to paying for therapy which will help our hurt kids to heal, to recover their strengths, build a sense of themselves here in Brisbane, and become able to manage their emotions better, learn, and build trusting relationships, through creative arts therapy in HEAL services in schools.
